Farmers rally to appease 'rain gods' in Rajasthan

By Anil Sharma, Jaipur: Large processions of farmers carrying religious flags and chanting prayers pleading with the gods for some rain have become a common scene at every famous shrine across parched Rajasthan.

Most farmers in the state are now busy appeasing their respective gods, urging them for at least one last spell of rain to revive their wilting crops.

Shrines like Salasar Balaji and Khatu Shyamji in the Shekhawati region are daily visited by one or two such processions. The first is a shrine to the Hindu deity Hanuman and the other to Lord Krishna, both temples considered wish-fulfilling and revered even in normal times, and people in thousands from the Shekhawati region are now visiting them.
