Reno (Nevada, USA) 10 September, (Asiantribune.com): Bhagavad-Gita, the best known Hindu scripture worldwide, will be taught in the prestigious institution of Nevada, Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), in November next.
To be taught by famous Hindu chaplain Rajan Zed, who read the historical first Hindu prayer in United States Senate in July last; this will provide a glimpse into this philosophical and intensely spiritual poem, often considered the epitome of Hinduism. A dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, just before the beginning of he great Mahabharata war, it has been commented by hundreds of authors and translated into all major languages of the world.
Besides being the cornerstone of Hindu faith, Bhagavad-Gita (Song of the Lord) is also one of the masterpieces of Sanskrit poetry in which Lord Krishna gives spiritual enlightenment to the warrior Arjuna, who realizes that the true battle is for his own soul. Traditional date of Mahabharata war is given as 3102 BCE but some scholars say Mahabharata epic (which included Bhagavad-Gita) was complied between 500 BCE—500 CE. It was first translated into English by Charles Wilkins in 1785.
Its seven hundred verses in eighteen chapters consider the nature of action, the religious and social duty, the human relationship to God, the means of liberation, and the nature of sacrifice, etc.
Besides Bhagavad-Gita, Rajan Zed will also teach "Hinduism" (oldest and third largest religion of the world), "Hindu Gods and Goddesses", "The Life, Experiments and Philosophy of Gandhi" (messiah of non-violence and peace) in TMCC in November and December next.
